Tirzah shares new single & mini-film "Hive Mind"
8th September 2021
Praise for Colourgrade and recent singles:
“Tirzah’s most daring and exciting work to date...Tirzah’s music has always seemed to coil and drift like smoke unfurling in dim lamplight. It’s music for late nights: humid afterparties, moments of whispered connection, the touch of skin on skin." THE FADER (June 2021 Cover Feature)
“another captivating example of hushed restraint that sounds like it’s transmitted from the future… its unresolved deliberateness demands attention, inviting you to contemplate how something so intimate-sounding can also seem so alien.” PITCHFORK (“Send Me” Best New Track)
"this could only be a Tirzah track, another pensive, minimalist gem from a low-key legend." RESIDENT ADVISOR
"The music gestures intently towards a feeling, and leaves the listener to figure out what exactly that feeling is. Levi’s production, often atmospheric, lush, and dense all at once, manages to bring Tirzah’s songwriting into your subconscious." ROLLING STONE
"loose, minimalist pop music that speaks volumes with so little." JEZEBEL
Ahead of the release of Tirzah’s eagerly anticipated second album Colourgrade, due October 1st, Tirzah is pleased to share new song “Hive Mind,” written alongside frequent collaborators Coby Sey and Mica Levi. With a thumping kick and rolling synth melody beneath its call-and-response vocal duet, “Hive Mind” is a tribute to community and family, and all the friction and harmony that comes with it.
The accompanying video directed, edited, and shot by Leah Walker and Rebecca Salvadori is a ten-minute mini-film encapsulating that “Hive Mind” of Tirzah’s including the extended CURL crew, Coby Sey and Mica Levi.
“Hive Mind” is the fourth track to be shared from Colourgrade, after the soft luminescence of “Send Me,” “Sink In” and “Tectonic.”
Colourgrade follows 2018’s immediate cult classic LP, Devotion. Recorded soon after the birth of her first child and shortly before her second child was born, it forms a subconscious snapshot across a year when Tirzah was playing live regularly for the first time, in the depths of promoting Devotion.
The album explores recovery, gratitude and new beginnings, presenting a singer having discovered the type of love that is shared between a mother and a child for the first time, whilst simultaneously working as an artist. Capturing both the great and the scary, the exhaustion and the recovery, Colourgrade ambles through the innermost feelings for an intoxicating presentation of a full-time mother and artist.
Tirzah live dates
